We knew poet Kazi Nazrul Islam during childhood at school through Bengali compulsory IST paper subject. Our school teacher always compared Kazi Nazrul Islam with Rabindra Nath Tagor. They said Kazi Nazrul would become great poet than Gurudev Rabindranath Tagor if he would become rich and landlord like Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore.

There is proverb in Bengal that throw “IF” word added statement in river (jadi ki baat nadi me). We can not reply our teacher due to lack of knowledge at that stage. Today our perseption, Nazrul kept four wives if he was rich like Gurudev Rabindra Nath, because Muslim men’s minds desire too many women accompany when they become rich. It is a common nature of Muslims in entire world regard less their economical condition. They can not satisfy with one woman.

However, there are so many poets in Bengal who were living in poor and had little age than Nazrul. Later those were get huge popularity in Bengal such as poet Sukanto. Poet Sukanto Bhattacharjo died at the age of 21.

Kazi Nazrul was poet of that time when British ruled our country. Every body know British tortured our freedom struggler brutally they sent political prisoner to Andaman. So many freedom fighters had died in Andaman jail. Poet Nazrul was one of the political prisoners of that time but he had not sent Andaman. He had been endured persecution of British in prison. For this reason he was paralyses at the last stage of his life.  This theory has written in every book of both Bengal (kolkata and Dhaka).

So many times i visited Kolkata in the past. I heard another theory about Nazrul and his disease.  In kolkata, people said poet Nazrul always visited brothel house. As a result, he gets syphilis diseases from there. That disease damages some important cell of his brain as a result he was paralyses at the end of his life. How ever, Nazrul was a reactionary poet during his time. He was fraud also. He doesn’t believe any particular religion. Hindu and Muslim both group criticized him. Muslim gave “Kafer” award to him. Hindu pronounced ‘Jabon’, ‘Nere’ etc derogatory word against him. He was criticized by both religious people because he used Hindu god and goddess name in his poetry.   

As a result, Nazrul enraged too much and he used more Hindu god and goddess in his poetry. Then he wrote many Islamic songs to prove that he was a good Muslim. He had nice affair with Nargis. That woman lived in commilla. Her father had book publishing business. However, Nazrul promised Nargis that he would marry her. At wedding day he departed from that place and escaped to Kolkata. That incident proves how much fraud he was. At last he married Promilla who was also an inhabitant of comilla. Promila family was different kind of Hindu family. They followed Brhammo philosophy (one god believer).

In 1972 Mujib government bring him Bangladesh. Mujib declared him national poet of Bangladesh because he was Muslim. Later military ruler Zia brought him again in 1976 from London after a medical treatment. That time government didn’t send back Nazrul to kolkata. How ever, after his death Bangladesh government disseminated his Islamic song only on media one-sidedly. Therefore, Nazrul has known by the people as an Islamic poet. Both literate and illiterate class of Bangladesh keeps that kind of thought and evaluation about Nazrul.
